Biography: James P. Cavanaugh is a practicing attorney of law and founding partner of the Cavanaugh Law Firm in Omaha, Nebraska, a specialty law firm concentrating on Social Security Disability Law. He is a sustaining member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives (NOSSCR). He has presented as a speaker and expert in the area of Social Security Disability in multiple venues.
An Omaha native, he is a graduate of the Creighton University (B.A., 1977) and Creighton University School of Law (J.D., 1980). He was admitted to the Nebraska Bar, and is also admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the District of Nebraska, U.S. Court of Appeals, Eighth Circuit. He is a member of the Omaha Bar Association, the Nebraska State Bar Association, and the American Bar Association.
Jim is a former trial attorney with the Douglas County Public Defender, representing indigent clients, and former Administrative Assistant to the Mayor of Omaha.
He has served on the Board of Directors of the Nebraska Repertory Theater, the Center for Missouri River Studies, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He is a member of the Omaha Sister Cities Association, and the Irish American Cultural Institute of Nebraska. He is a speaker with the Nebraska Humanities Council Speakers Bureau. He has served on the Mercy High School Capital Campaign Board of Directors, the Montessori Parent’s Cooperative Corporation, and as Chairman of the Irish Art Exhibition.
